Sulfur Bacteria

For industry that use of sulfur as their raw material often have difficulty handling on their waste because of sulfur can produce other dangerous or poisonous chemicals if lets them on the land, like sulfur dioxide. Bacteria destroying sulfur may can give the solution of this problem, but this knowledge still on experiment. Some science still try with their own type of bacteria that can convert sulfur waste into other safe material naturally. In natural this bacteria may occur but the scientist should isolate this bacteria to more understand and to know about how they are working.

Microbes, through their specialized metabolic processes and ecologies, play a fundamental part in man's economy, and their economic roles are widely recognized as important. The sulphur bacteria have had in past geological eras, and are having today, numerous and diverse effects, often deleterious, scattered throughout the economy. Many of their economic roles are not widely known. Their economic and environmental effects arise, according to the type or combination of species involved, principally from (1) the production of acid, (2) the formation or removal of hydrogen sulphide, and (3) the removal of oxygen. In this paper their various effects on industry and the environment are surveyed.

Death because of Brain-Eating Amoeba

This story is happened in Louisiana - United States in Tuesday, 12 December 2011. Louisiana health have warned regulators to residents about the danger of using neti pots improperly. A neti pot is look like a geni's lamp, commonly used to irrigate sinuses. Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals issued its warning following a second death this year caused by Naegleria fowleri, called as brain-eating amoeba. Amoeba is microbe bigger than a bacteria.

This infection to the nose channel because of use neti pot to irrigate, flushing or rinsing sinuses. Use distilled, sterile or previously boiled water to make up irrigating solution is not safe for nose, but safe for drinking. It's also important to rinse the irrigating device after each use and leave open to air dry, because many possibility can happen to that device like have contaminated by microorganism like amoeba.

Amoeba can causes disease primary amoebic meningoencephalitis, a brain infection that lead to the destruction of brain tissue. The symptom of this disease is like to the symptom of bacterial meningitis and can include headache, fever, nausea, vomiting and stiff neck. Later symptoms such as confusing, loss of balance, seizure and hallucinations. After infected by this microbe, the disease progresses rapidly can cause death within one to 12 days.

Bacterial Conjunctivitis

Bacterial conjunctivitis refer to any inflammatory condition of the conjunctiva. Commonly is caused by viruses, allergies or bacteria.

The symptom of this diseases such as:

- Burning, irritation, mild itching, tenderness to palpation
- Capious yellow green mucopurulent or purulent discharge
- Initially uniteral infection with the second eye involved a few days later
- Marked conjuctival injection, chemois, lid swelling, and tender preauricular adenopathy

The medicine of this diseases by use of topical antibacterial therapy. Common topical anti-infectives include sulfonamides, aminoglycosides, polymyxin-based combinations, and fluoroquinolones. Since cultures are generally not performed for mild conjuctivitis, a bread sprectrum antiinfective is recommended and usually successful. There are several factor on choosing of anti-infective:
  • Should offer broad spectrum coverage
  • Effectiveness against resistant pathogens
  • Low MIC90 value
  • Excellent tolerable
